Project Overview

My research project focuses on studying the smoltification process in Coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch). Smoltification refers to the series of behavioral, developmental, and physiological changes that salmon undergo as they transition from parr to smolts. During this process, they gain the ability to migrate downstream and adapt to living in saltwater (1).

To better understand this transformation, my project will analyze RNA sequencing data from the brain and pituitary glands of Coho salmon during the smoltification phase.

By examining molecular signals present during this crucial period, I aim to determine whether these signals can potentially be utilized to enhance the success of sea water transfer in these fish.
