Project Overview

I am particularly interested in genetics and epigenetics, specifically how we can use them to make strides in the fields of cancer research or other common diseases. I am currently working on an honours project which involves exploring substance use disorders (SUD) at a molecular level in an attempt to discover new therapies for drug addiction. Analysing the DNA methylation of rat subjects might shed some light on the genetics of drug addiction and this can be used to detect a vulnerability to drug addiction in humans; information that will be handy to know in a clinical setting when deliberating the use of opioids as pain killers.
